So far, not a very pleasant experience, I've been waiting 3 days to hear from them regarding my application, I have asked them for an ETA by email, and have tried to phone in, but instantly get "your call cannot be taken right now, try again later" now I appreciate that there is a lockdown at the moment, but an email should not be taking 3 days to get a response, especially if you're in desperate need of said loan. Will update the review if the circumstances of the case change.

Revised review: Since writing my original review (below), CEO James has been very helpful and thorough in investigating the account problems our community organisation has endured. As well as fixing all our immediate problems, he was very up-front about challenges they face with their current system given the large number of different direct bank transfer payees we have into our account. However, he outlined workarounds he was putting in place to ensure these shouldn't affect us again. Although it was mutually agreed that this aspect of our banking needs currently wasn't a great match for the credit union, the efforts and honesty of the credit union were highly appreciated (and a stark contrast to the disinterested responses to account setup problems I have experienced from 2 of the major high street banks in recent years).Original Review: Really nice people, great ethics, but seriously incompetent as bankers when it comes to handling bank transfers into the account. The community organisation I am part of has had to chase them maybe 20 times over the last 3 years to get them to move to our account (correctly formatted) transfers that have ended up languishing in their "holding account" (sometimes for months), or have been credited to our account by a name picked apparently at random from a previous item on our statements. Very worrying - I recommend double checking statements for all payments that people say they have made to your account!

Today I telephoned Bristol Credit Union and spoke to the lovely Paula. I had a problem I had to deal with on behalf of a customer. I have to say that Paula was amazingly helpful, she offered suggestions, advised caution where necessary and various options for me to consider. I was able to support my customer exceptionally well because of it. Paula, you were brilliant thank you.Whilst writing this review I cannot forget the lovely Matt. Matt has been an amazing support for me during my support for another customer.I have sent Matt lots of emails requesting information and I have had very speedy responses from him. I have had other information provided for my customer and suggestions on which options to take. I have received excellent advice from Matt on the best way forward and also words of caution to offer my customer. Brilliant. Matt you have been wonderful, thank you.Oh, I will be back, trust me

There are three ways that you can get into contact with Great Western Credit Union1. You can phone them2. You can email them3. You can go to a remote desert island and write your message on a piece of paper and then put it into a bottle and put a cork in the top of the bottle and then throw the bottle into the ocean in the hope that one day they might find itMy recommendation would be Option 3 ( the message in a bottle option ) because out of the three options available it has far more chance of getting noticed by them !( And don't take any notice of all their five star sock puppet reviews )

As someone with a bad credit history the lovely people at BCU understood and really helped me out of a bad situation and helped me clear a fair bit of debts at a really good rate I can not fault any of BCU staff they are truly wonderful, friendly, helpful people. I wish I could give more than 5 stars will definitely be using them again if the needs be that I need another loan.

I had bad credit in the past. Credit Union has not only gave me numerous loans over the last two years, but also helped improve my credit rating. Best place to go for a loan. Real sense of community in the Bristol branch. Staff are super helpful.
